Bowl update

The bowl turning has taken a bit of a back seat in the last week or so, but i thought i would update pictures of bowls i have turned so far.

this was one of the first small ones i tried, finished with walnut oil. the wood is cherry.

This is a larger cherry bowl, with sapwood near the base. due to the difference in hardness between the sapwood and hardwood, a few cracks have developed near the base. Finished with Beeswax and mineral oil mixture.

now we have an oak bowl, finished with the same mineral oil and beeswax mixture.

here is the first dried piece of wood i turned, a piece of cherry from a different tree than the others. finished with beeswax and mineral oil.

here is my first natural edge bowl. its a lot of work to finish. cherry with mineral oil and beeswax.

and lastly another cherry bowl again with beeswax and mineral oil.

all these were turned wet, other than the one i mentioned. the risk of turning wet is extreme warping (which i like) or cracking. sadly, my largest piece so far, 11in wide and 5in high, cracked in a violent manner. i may be able to save it yet by adding glue into the gaps, but I’m pretty disappointed, i really liked it. ahh well, thus is the line i dance on turning wet wood.
